Short notice, minimal publicity and an unusual venue didn’t stop Country fans in New York City from showing up Tuesday, Nov. 16, to support Country aussie Keith Urban.

“Hey, New York City, if you're in the Penn Station area right now, come by and see me for a bit.” That’s the tweet Urban sent to fans just two minutes before he took an unconventional stage: the aisle of an Amtrack train.

“We're in New York for some television appearances, and I wanted to play somewhere different,” Urban said. “I'm no stranger playing to the drum machine and odd places, and I thought the train station would be a lot of fun.”

Urban was in the big city to promote the release of his new album, Get Closer, an album he says is a snapshot of who he is at this moment in life.

“The songs aren't just about where I am today,” Urban told The Boot. “The feelings on the records have been very accurate. The feeling on this record is where I am today. This record is made in 2010. This is where I am.”

And where exactly is this three-time Grammy winner? He says in a place full of joy and comfort with wife actress Nicole Kidman and daughter Sunday Rose.

“My own personal experience has been one of a realization of what loving means. Anybody who has loved someone and had their heart broken, they know how hard it is to love again, if they can even do it at all,” Urban said. “It's very difficult; it can take a long time if it ever happens.”

After performing fan favorites, like “You Look Good In My Shirt,” “I Told You So” and “Raining on Sunday,” along with new ones like “You Gonna Fly,” the chart-topper expressed one last bit of gratitude to fans from his train station stage.

“I want to thank everybody not just for being here today, but also spreading so much of the good love and good word about our music and what we're doing, dragging people to concerts and turning people onto Country Music -- it means a lot,” he said.

“You Gonna Fly,” Urban’s current single, “Put You In a Song,” and six additional tracks are featured on his album, “Get Closer,” available now.
