Kanye West/Taylor Swift Controversy Sparks Parody
Keywords:
Nashville producer/musician Vince Romanelli spoofed Taylor Swift's "You Belong with Me" in response to the Kanye West/Taylor Swift MTV VMA incident, in which Swift won for best female video and Kanye stole her limelight. Over the course of a week, the song, "You Don't Belong On MTV," has achieved more than 100,000 hits on YouTube alone.
With lyrics like "She wears cool boots, and you have bad hair. She plays a 12-string, and you use Autotune," Romanelli is referring to the parody as a light-hearted diss at Kanye West. But with lines like, "Let's start by looking back on the last year or two/you can't deny that she's selling more CDs than you," the parody sounds more like straight-up criticism.
Romanelli's song is taking him out of his guitarist/producer role with his rock band, Philos. "I'm one step closer to my dream of being able to take Taylor Swift to Chik-fil-a one day," said Romanelli. "Knowing that she's heard my song means that I'm no longer sitting in the bleachers."
The video is being hosted on the Philos website, at www.philosrocks.com/mtv.
