9/11/2007 Stephen L. Betts The hip-hop world has been so keenly focused on the same-day release of the latest albums from rappers Kanye West and 50 Cent, and the heated competition between the two, yet neither artist has publicly acknowledged today’s (9/11) release of the album that could prove to be the real spoiler in the race to the top of the charts: Kenny Chesney’s Just Who I Am: Poets and Pirates. But to his credit, in an interview with Rolling Stone, Kanye does give props to a country music icon. “Somebody played me a Johnny Cash song and the story was so dope,” says Kanye. “It came together better than any story I had. A father had named his son [Sue]. I haven’t the level of what Johnny Cash did.” The issue of Rolling Stone, which also contains reviews of the albums by Kanye, 50 Cent and Kenny, is on newsstands now.
