Former Jordanaires Member Dies

6/3/2008 Sandy Paul   Hugh Jarrett, former member of Elvis Presley’s backup quartet the Jordanaires, died June 1 after sustaining injuries in a March 25 car accident. Jarrett, 78, joined the group in 1954 after working in radio in South Carolina and Tennessee. He went on to work in radio in Atlanta, Los Angeles, Marietta, Ga., and Gainesville, Fla., according to radiolink.com. He also worked as an MC at the famous club, Palomino in Los Angeles. Jarrett also appeared in the television series In the Heat of the Night and in television movies. He most recently hosted a Gospel show in Cumming, Ga., on Sunday mornings. In 1999, he was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. He was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in 2004 and into the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame in 2007.
