Country legend Johnny Cash’s 1958 single, “Guess Things Happen That Way,” was Apple’s iTunes 10-billionth song to be downloaded.
Louie Sulcer, 71 of Woodstock, Ga., answered his phone Thursday, Feb. 25, to hear Apple’s Steve Jobs informing him that he just downloaded the 10-billionth tune. Jobs also informed Sulcer, who was given an iPod Nano as a birthday gift last October, that he earned $10,000 worth of free music by downloading the 10 billionth song.
If that wasn’t enough, singer Rosanne Cash, Johnny’s daughter, was on the line. CBS News reported that Rosanne told the retired grandfather of nine, “We’re so proud that the winning pick was one of my dad’s songs.”
There is only one Country song at the top 25 iTunes downloads since its launch in 2003; Taylor Swift’s “Love Story” is No. 8 on the list.
