Johnny Cash Auction Gets Big Bucks

The late Country Music legend Johnny Cash is and will always be an international sensation; an auction of his things over the weekend drew in bidders from around the world and made more than $700,000.

 

Some of the items included a signed Martin guitar with which Johnny wrote the first few lines of his hit, "I Walk the Line." The item sold for $50,000. Additional auction items included personal notes from well-known friends, including Kris Kristofferson, Bruce Springsteen and Kirk Douglas; handwritten lyrics; one of his signature capes; and personal effects belonging to his wife, the late June Carter Cash.

 

One of the items that caused quite a stir was the iconic denim jumpsuit he wore during his filmed performance at San Quentin prison where he flipped the bird to the camera. The jumpsuit sparked a bidding war that far surpassed the initial estimation of $5,000 and ended at $50,000.
