8/3/2007 Stephen L. Betts Fans in St. Louis were able to vote for the act that would close a free concert series this weekend. And the act they chose was John Michael Montgomery. "It makes me feel great, considering I haven't had an album in three years," the singer tells the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "It's nice to know you haven't been forgotten by the fans, who still like the music I put out in the past. The shows I remember doing there have always been good, and I leave with great memories. It's a great town, with fans who love country music. They could be doing a lot of other things besides coming and worrying about John Michael Montgomery." John Michael opened up about one of the things fans have worried about - his DUI arrest last year. "I had some beers," the Kentucky resident says. "I don't condone drinking and driving, but people go out all the time and have a meal and a glass of wine. That happens in every city every day. I don't believe in driving drunk but whenever you have a few beers, you're going to roll the dice." He also revealed plans to release his next album on his own label, Stringtown Records, and how it will compare to the music from his days on the major labels. "It'll have more songs that I wrote," says John Michael. "And, hopefully, I will get my brother (Eddie Montgomery of Montgomery Gentry) to sing on there with me. When I was on a major label and he was on a major, politics wouldn't let us do anything. That won't get in the way now. Plus, I'll be able to do more of the songs I want to do without someone looking over my back.
