While John Fogerty, former lead singer of Creedance Clearwater Revival, may have a rock image, in his next album, he's dipping from his Country influences. The Blue Ridge Rangers Rides Again, set for release Sept. 1, features remakes of past Country hits, including songs from Buck Owens, the Kendalls, Ray Price and John Denver.
Additionally, Fogerty's backing band in the studio featured bass player Dennis Crouch (who worked on the Robert Plant & Alison Krauss album Raising Sand), Americana singer Buddy Miller, steel guitarist Greg Leisz (Willie Nelson & Lee Ann Womack’s "Mendocino County Line") and mandolin player Jason Mowery, who’s married to Jessica Harp and formerly played in Keith Urban's touring band.
"Those guys are just fantastic players," Fogerty told Billboard. "They really captured or understood what the Blue Ridge Rangers vibe is. It's a really cool record."
Rides Again revives such classic songs as "Back Home Again," "Heaven’s Just A Sin Away," "Never Ending Song Of Love" and "I Don’t Care (Just As Long As You Love Me)." The Eagles’ Don Henley and Timothy B. Schmit also make a guest appearance on a cover of Rick Nelson’s "Garden Party," and Bruce Springsteen appears on a rendition of the Everly Brothers’ "When Will I Be Loved."
Fogerty's Country ties also go back to an episode of CMT Crossroads with Keith Urban in 2005.
