Country music stars are well known for their dedication to charity work, but after singing for the troops in the Middle East last summer, Joe Nichols can't help but wish that more country music stars would do the same.
"I'm embarrassed that a lot of very successful country music artists that don't need the money right now, haven't even sniffed the possibility of going to Iraq or Afghanistan," Joe told GAC. "Why not? It takes two weeks of your time, it doesn't cost you a dime. What you get out of it is worlds of appreciation -- and who doesn't want that?"
Joe's visit to the Middle East can be seen on TV, as 'Joe Nichols: My Military Diary' has aired on GAC from November 27th to the 30th. The TV special shows Joe delivering performances to the service men and women overseas, and he reassures them how much they are appreciated here at home.
"Be cool over here, have hit records and everything like that," said Joe. "But take two weeks, for cryin' out loud. We talk about charities that are popular over here -- and I think they're convenient sometimes -- but I can't think of a better charity right now than going over and saving some thousands of troops from a little bit of misery."
