Just before Jo Dee Messina releases Unmistakable, her first album in five years, on April 13, she will play a special five-night, seven-show residency at New York City’s Feinstein’s at the Regency Hotel. The show series will take place Tuesday, March 16, through Saturday, March 20.
The Country singer will also play a few shows next month before her tour really gets underway on March 11 in Missouri. Scheduled tour dates run through October 2010.
At Feinstein’s, Messina will perform in the interactive format from her recent Music Room tour -- using a simple stage with piano and four backing musicians. She will take requests, chat with fans and answer their questions.
“This tour is whatever the audience wants,” she told Las Vegas Weekly. "We do a couple songs then we flip it over to the audience and they make requests, so no two shows are the same. Sometimes the audience just wants to hear the hits; sometimes people want to hear stuff from the new record...It’s whatever they want. That’s the magic of this show, there’s no set list.”
Messina will release her next single, “That’s God,” off her Unmistakable album on Jan. 25. She was inspired to write it during a tour stop in Canada.
“That song really is my soul on a page,” she said.  “My son Noah was five months old at the time, and we were walking down this path and could see this snow-capped mountain that was enormous, but you felt like you could just reach out and touch it. I looked at my son and that mountain and said, ‘That’s God.’”
