12/17/2007 Stephen L. Betts   Jason Michael Carroll has been crowned country’s top new artist of 2007 in the year-end issue of Billboard, based on combined sales and airplay. He’s also the top new male country artist on R&R’s 2007 airplay rankings of the 20 Top Country Artists, with two of R&R’s Top 50 most-played country songs of 2007: “Alyssa Lies” and “Livin’ Our Love Song,” both of which were written or co-written by him and both of which were Top 5 country airplay singles. On the sales front, Jason’s album, Waitin’ in the Country, released in February is the best-selling debut country album released this year, according to SoundScan. In addition, both “Alyssa Lies” and “Livin’ Our Love Song” have amassed impressive digital-sales figures. “Alyssa Lies” entered Billboard’s Digital Songs chart with the highest debut for a new country artist in chart history, while “Livin’ Our Love Song” has amassed ringtone and download sales of nearly 400,000.
