Just a week after winning Song of the Year at the CMA Awards for his acclaimed single, "In Color," Jamey Johnson's album sales for That Lonesome Song have increased by 286 percent. Johnson is now among a select group of musicians to win two or more CMA Song of the Year awards. He first experienced the spotlight in 2006 after co-writing George Straight's "Give It Away."
"When someone showed me the list of songwriters who have won two CMA Song of the Year awards, I was floored that my name was next to those legends," said Johnson. Other, two-time Song of the Year recipients include  Vince Gill, Alan Jackson, Bobby Braddock, Curly Putman, Don Schlitz, Paul Overstreet and Max D. Barnes.
"Hearing my name called three years later for "In Color" with two more of my friends, James Otto and Lee Thomas Miller, was very humbling," he added.
In addition to accepting an award at the CMA Awards, Johnson also teamed up with Kid Rock for a performance of "Jennings and Jones."
"Even though 'Jennings and Jones' wasn't a single, it's really cool that people responded to our CMA performance by going out and laying their hard earned money down," Johnson said of the increase in his album sales. "I've swung a hammer for seven bucks an hour so I appreciate every single person who supports Country Music."
Johnson is working on a new album and currently headlining the CMT tour with Randy Houser.
