Rissi Palmer at tree lightingCountry Music star Rissi Palmer is getting into the holiday spirit in a very prestigious way. The young singer will perform for the United States President and the First Lady at the 85th anniversary of the lighting of the National Christmas Tree in Washington, D.C. This year's lighting ceremony takes place on Thursday, Dec. 4 in front of an audience of roughly 7,000 people on an outdoor stage on the Ellipse across from the White House.Rissi Palmer follows in the footsteps of many great stars who have performed at the televised event in previous years. Fellow Country Music artists Trisha Yearwood, Loretta Lynn and LeAnn Rimes have participated in the lighting ceremony over the years, along with other big acts including Tony Bennett, Placido Domingo, Dr. Maya Angelou, Wayne Newton, Aretha Franklin, Patti LaBelle, Shirley Jones, Manhattan Transfer, Charlotte Church and many others.This national ceremony has signaled the start of the holiday season for all Americans since its innaugural event in 1923. The Christmas show is broadcast live from 5-6 p.m. EST as a news event made available for non-commercial use.
