Heroes Music Festival 2011

As the tenth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks approaches, the people of our nation prepare to reflect and honor those who lost their lives and those who continue to fight for our freedoms today. On September 8-11 the Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, GA. will host the first Heroes Music Festival.

Charles DeJournett founded the event that will be entitled Rock and Remembrance with performances by renowned recording artists in both the country and rock genres. DeJournett is a 10-year Air Force Veteran and is a current member of the 116th Air National Guard. This year, to help honor those veterans, more than 36 artists have lined up to perform for the event. Some of those performers include, Mark Wills, Rodney Atkins, Delbert McClinton, Lee Roy Parnell, Jonny Lang, Days of the New, Saving Abel, Skillet, Drowning Pool and many more. The live show will extend across two independent stages at the 125,000-capacity Atlanta Motor Speedway.

“We are pleased in the outpour of artists who are not only willing to share their talents, but understand the importance of the message and significance of Heroes Music Festival overall,” says DeJournett. “This will be a memorable affair for all Americans and music enthusiasts from every corner of the country…and…it’s the first time since the Capricorn days that McClinton and Parnell have come together to perform on the same stage! This you gotta see!”

The festival will include performances, of course, but more than that, there will be 30 to 40 new recruits sworn in on sight. Operation Troop Aid will also take place, assembling 10,000 care packages for our troops overseas. On Saturday, Sept. 10, HMF along with military dignitaries will present the Wounded Warrior Award, the Army Silver Wings will orchestrate a parachute jump, and Honor Guard and National Guard will hold large-scale, life-like demonstrations.

“Heroes Music Festival is a concert event with meaning and purpose. To celebrate in music and acknowledge with heart the men and women who defend our freedoms in a patriotic and All-American entertainment-filled setting,” says DeJournett. “This has been a passion project for so many to take back this date and fill September 11 with celebration and love, giving back in a musical experience unlike any other.”
