Many football fans and Tennesseans have been touched by the recent death of former Titans quarterback Steve McNair, but not quite like Country legend Hank Williams, Jr., who was a close friend of the man who helmed the Tennessee football team for their first years in Nashville and took them to their only Super Bowl.
"Everybody loved that guy," Williams said, according to TheBoot.com. "He was my friend. He gave stuff to my kids. Let's face it, a lot of those guys are jerks, but not Steve."
McNair, 36, was found shot to death in his condo on July 4 with alleged girlfriend Sahel Kazemi, also dead. It is still unknown whether Kazemi was murdered or committed suicide. Despite the gruesome details of the case and the rumors of infidelity surrounding McNair, Williams chooses to focus on the good and the memories.
"I was sitting out there looking over the pond, thinking about Steve and the Super Bowl and how my one year deal with Monday Night Football turned into 21 years," he said, referring to his cabin in West Tennessee. "That turned into something good, so I've just got to look on the bright side.
"Steve was a good guy, and we need to remember all the good things about him."
