Hank Williams, Jr. Continues Monday Night Football Legacy

Hank Williams, Jr. has a long legacy with Monday Night Football. For the past 21 years, he has sung the NFL opening theme song, and this year looks to be no different.
 
In Nashville’s Tennessean, Williams recalled the origins of his Monday Night Football tradition with the help of his late manager, Merle Kilgore. “Merle said, ‘Brother, they think they want to try you on Monday Night Football. It was a one-year deal. Seven Super Bowls and all those years later, here we are.”
 
However, Williams has not been the consecutive performer for Monday Night Football. In an interview with USA Today, he talked about the year he was almost replaced. In 1993, Williams was substituted for part of the NFL season, but due to fan demand he returned.
 
Today, Williams is joined by other Country stars such as Faith Hill, Tim McGraw and Carrie Underwood, who each collaborated with the NFL in their own way. From singing the national anthem to performing theme songs, Country Music has made its presence known in football.
