Hank Williams, Jr. Apologizes for Political Comment

Hank Williams, Jr., who recently compared President Obama to Adolph Hitler, admits that the comment was out of line.

"I have always been very passionate about politics and sports, and this time it got the best or worst of me," writes Hank Jr. on his website. "The thought of the leaders of both parties jukin' and high fivin' on a golf course, while so many families are struggling to get by, simply made me boil over and make a dumb statement. I am very sorry if it offended anyone. I would like to thank all my supporters. This was not written by some publicist."

Hank, who is considering running for the U.S. Senate in 2012, compared Obama to Hitler on a live broadcast of "FOX & Friends." In reaction to President Obama's golf game over the summer with House Speaker John Boehner, he said, "That was one of the biggest political mistakes ever. Come on! That's be like Hitler playing golf with Netanyahu (Israeli Prime Minister)."

Hank is getting a lot of negative and positive attention for his comments. Whoopi Goldberg, one of the hosts on "The View," thinks he may be garnering too much negativity over the comparison.

"Hank has always been provocative," said Whoopi. "He's a musician, and musicians do provocative things. I think of all the football players and all the musicians who have either taken a misstep or done something, and what kind of standards are we holding folks to when we can't say, 'Listen, man, that's not a good thing to do,' so instead we pull them?"

Whoopi is referring to  ESPN's decision to quit playing Hank Jr.'s song for the "Monday Night Football" theme song after hearing his comment.
