About 19 years after surviving a tragic shooting in Nashville, singer Sammy Sadler is back with his second full-length album, Heart Shaped like Texas.  His first, Hard on a Heart, was released in 2004.

"I don't want people to look at me as just a country music singer, because I'm a survivor, too," Sadler told The Dallas Morning News yesterday. "By the grace of God I'm still here. God left me here for a reason, and he saved me, and I feel like it's to sing and entertain people. We're not going to go away. We're back. We're trying to get our music to the people. I love singing. I love entertaining people. If my music and what I've lived through can help somebody else, that's what I hope that it does."

Sadler was just 22, and on the brink of his career when the "murder on Music Row" occurred. Sadler had just signed a contract with Evergreen Records and was at their offices one March evening with friend Kevin Hughes when the two were attacked by a gunman.  Sadler was shot in the arm, Hughes was shot three times and was killed.

Sadler now lives on a farm in Boham, Texas, and released Heart Shaped Like Texas on his own lable, S Records.  Sadlers makes no qualms about pursuing the career he started 20 years ago.  He said, "I never gave up the dream, never gave up the fire."
