This July, Vince Gill and family, including wife Amy Grant and children Jenny, Matt, Millie, Sarah and Corina, experienced what Gill called a “life changing” trip to South Africa, specifically Cape Town, Uganda and Justicia. Cape Town held the base and conference for the International Academy of Achievement Summit, where Gill and Grant both performed with African choirs, violinist Joshua Bell and opera singer Golda Schultz.

TheBoot.com reported that Gill and Grant also visited the Ntshuxekani Preschool in Justicia, where they held an unplanned assembly to share their music with the children. The couple donated an electric keyboard, guitar, music stands and piano bench to the school, and were even treated to a special performance by the school children.

The family later visited Uganda, the town where Grant’s oldest daughter is sponsoring a child through the Compassion program. Grant said, "We visited a family with six children who lived in a mud hut in the middle of a banana field. We were in the middle of nowhere and we are in this hut about the size of two cars. I had a feeling of being a world citizen instead of American."
The trip was eye-opening for every member of the family, but Gill said donating to the less fortunate isn’t the ultimate goal. He wants to learn to be appreciative for the life he leads.
