The name George Jones doesn’t spawn thoughts of academic achievements, awards and honors, but that hasn’t stopped the Country Music legend from establishing his own school for aspiring Country talent, and the dates are set for fall semester.George Jones University will assemble September 25 and take students through an intense two-day crash course about everything a Nashville newbie should know going into the Country Music industry.“It’s about the business of the music business and focuses on enlightening and empowering people who want to enter the industry,” said Tandy Rice, dean of GJU.The seminar, which meets twice a year, hosts some of the industry’s most successful movers and shakers as speakers. They cover topics and answer questions on everything from record labels to booking and song publishing. Students also walk away with a list of “Who’s Who in the Music Business”, which provides names, positions and contact information in the industry.Jones has been a staple in the Country Music industry since his song “White Lightning” went to No. 1 in 1959.  The silver-haired, Country Music Hall of Famer is the voice behind “He Stopped Loving Her Today," a song some critics have coined as the best Country Music song of all time.
