Friends and Opry Members Join for Benefit for Mel McDaniel

Friends and Grand Ole Opry members are collaborating on a benefit concert and silent auction for fellow Opry member, Mel McDaniel. McDaniel and his wife, Peggy, have been left with mounting medical bills after Mel suffered from a heart attack in June.

The benefit event for the singer who is known for his hits such as "Baby's Got Her Blue Jeans On," "Lousiana Saturday Night" and "Stand Up," will be held at the Nashville Palace on Thursday, Aug. 13, from 6 p.m. to 1 p.m. 

Performering at the event will be Little Jimmy Dickens, Jean Shepherd and Jim Ed Brown, as well as Rick Blaylock, Alison Clements, Jared Rogers, Tommy Cash, Buddy Jewel, David Ball, Guy Gilcrest, T-Bell, Jet Jurgensmeyer, Helen Cornelius, Ken Peletier, Ricky Lynn Gregg, Jimmy Fortune, T. Graham Brown, Billy Are, Hank Beach, Charlie Louvin, Don Wayne, Jack Greene, Jimmy C. Newman, Larry Paxton and Candi Apple Red, among others. McDaniel’s band, Oklahoma Wind, will provide backing music for the lineup.

Not only is the lineup impressive, but already over 50 items have been donated to the silent auction, including an autographed guitar by Carrie Underwood, a one week stay in Gatlinburg, two guitars signed by Opry members, tours by Tommy's Tours, autographed football by Titans player and much more.
