I met Kitty Wells at Fanfare in Nashville, Tennessee on June 7, 1988. I was 23 years old and Kitty was 68. The song "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels" in 1952 made her the first female country singer to top the U.S. country charts. She was the first female country singer to release an album of her own when she did so in 1956.
