9/24/2007 Stephen L. Betts CountryHound.com recently reported the release of Emmylou Harris’ Songbird: Rare Tracks and Forgotten Gems, a five-disc box set of rarities, demos and collaborations. Now comes news that Emmylou will host "Songbird on the Air," a four-part series on Sirius Satellite Radio's "Outlaw Country." Emmylou will play tracks from the set along with other hand-picked songs from her musical friends and role models. She’ll also guest-DJ a special hour on Sirius' classic country channel, "The Roadhouse," where she’ll play songs from the channel's library and tell stories about her life on the road. In a 30-year career that spans 23 solo albums, Emmylou Harris has recorded with artists including Ryan Adams, Beck, Elvis Costello, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan and Lucinda Williams. “Songbird on the Air” begins Sat. Oct. 6 at 9 p.m., and continues every Saturday at that time until Oct. 27. Each show will be rebroadcast Sunday at 8 a.m. and Monday at 12 a.m. (All times Eastern). Sirius’ “Outlaw Country” (Channel 63) was created by musician/actor “Little Steven” Van Zandt of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band (and The Sopranos). Check out the National Public Radio website to hear four tracks Emmylou recorded in Nashville with Buddy Miller for an NPR broadcast.
