This week in Congress, several music artists spoke up about creating The Performance Rights Act, a legislation that would make it a requirement to pay artists to play their work on air. In doing so, the U.S. would actually be following the lead of many other nations, accordingt to GACtv.com.Lobbying alongside such artists as Patti LaBelle, Sheryl Crow, Herbie Hancock and will.i.am, Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter, Emmylou Harris represented musicFirst, an organization designed for the support of musicians on legislative issues.  Though songwriters are already paid royalties for their work, for over 80 years music has been aired without having to pay to play. Radio representatives argue that the artists work for the label, not the radio station, and should be compensated through their record label as opposed to the radio station.  Among the names working on behalf of musicFirst, founders include Martina McBride, Tim McGraw, Toby Keith, Terri Clark, Big & Rich, Don Henley, Brooks and Dunn, George Jones and Gretchen Wilson.  Find out what the Big Dog thinks about this, read Webb's Woof.
