6/12/2008 Sandy Paul Elmer Alley creates Opryland Theme Park The creator of Fan Fair and Opryland, Elmer Alley, died Monday, June 9 at the age of 87. Over a 40 year span, Alley was a songwriter, comic, recording audio engineer, puppeteer, producer and director of syndicated country music shows and a voice on radio and television commercials, according to countrystandardtime.com. Alley launched The Nashville Network and was the executive producer and writer for Hee Haw for two years. He also served in the Army Air Corp during World War ll. A graveside service will held at 1:30 p.m. today at Spring Hill Cemetery.
