Pending approval from Tennessee’s board of trustees next week, Parton would receive the honor May 9 during the Arts & Sciences commencement ceremony at UT. She would be only the second person to receive an honorary doctorate from UT-Knoxville.  Parton has spent her life working with several charities in East Tennessee. She founded the Imagination Library in 1996 in Sevier County, Tenn., where she hails from and it is also home to her theme park Dollywood. The library gives the children a new book every month from birth to age 5. It has spread to 46 states, Canada and the United Kingdom.  Parton also works with the schools in Sevier County to give students initiative to graduate and move on to college. Parton’s degree would be a Doctor of Humane and Musical Letters in honor of her many lifetime achievements.
