Dierks Has No Shortage of New Songs

1/23/2008 Stephen L. Betts   Dierks Bentley has written more than 50 new songs for his upcoming studio album, and says he's finally cut that down to 30 tunes for the project. Since only a dozen or so songs can make the final record, a few of the compositions may find life elsewhere. “[We'll] have some [extra] stuff for iTunes and maybe some sort of collection of hits at some point,” reveals Dierks.  And in spite of the fact that his current album, Long Trip Alone, is up for a Grammy Award next month, Dierks isn't thinking about trophies or sales figures during this week’s recording sessions. “I think I'm leaving a mark, or doing something worthwhile with the gift I've been given. Hopefully, this next record will top the one we have out now,” he says. Dierks will debut his latest single, “Trying to Stop Your Leaving,” on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Monday (1/28), the same day the single goes for adds at country radio. He then returns to Los Angeles the following week for media appearances and events leading up to the 2008 GRAMMY Awards, including a performance on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson (2/6), a guest appearance on E! Entertainment's talk show Chelsea Lately (2/7), and a private pre-Grammy concert at the Knitting Factory in Hollywood (2/8). Dierks’ Throttle Wide Open tour gets rolling Feb. 14 in Gainesville, Fla.
