Dierks Bentley Describes Silver Lining to Nashville Floods

Dierks Bentley said the devastation and turmoil of the Nashville floods is helping to bring the Middle Tennessee community together. He realized just how much of an effect the flooding had when he went to help Charles Kelley of Lady Antebellum pump approximately two feet of water from his home.
 
“I went over to his place, and he was talking to his neighbors. He just moved there, and I said, ‘That’s cool that you know your neighbors pretty well,’” Bentley said. “He said, ‘I never knew them before today.’ Everyone comes out and [bonds] when something like the flood happens. It does have a way of bringing people a lot closer together, for sure.”
 
Bentley’s house incurred minor water damage compared to what happened to many Nashville homes. The biggest upset for him was having to cancel some shows in Knoxville and Charlottesville due to traffic conditions. Of course, he was more than happy to stay in Nashville and help out.
 
“I hate that for those fans in Knoxville and Charlottesville,” Bentley said. “But for me and the crew, there’s no way we could have left our houses and families behind. It’s even hard leaving once we did, because you feel so connected to your city when something like that happens. You want to be there for the telethons and concerts.”
 
Dierks Bentley, Brad Paisley, and Lady Antebellum are among the artists who will perform for GAC’s “Music City Keep on Playin’ – A Benefit for Flood Relief” on Sunday, May 16. The telethon will air live on GAC commercial-free.
 
Despite all the commotion and chaos, Bentley is still making music and videos, with his latest video for “Up on the Ridge” out now.
