The Del McCoury Band recently celebrated their 50th year in the music industry. As a gift to their devoted fan base, the band released a compilation of their greatest hits, titled Celebrating 50 Years of Del McCoury.
So few groups last 50 years in the music business, it’s natural to assume that achieving this milestone in their career would make the perfect time for the band to close that chapter in their lives. For Del McCoury and sons Ronnie and Rob, fiddler Jason Carter and bass player Alan Bartram, this wasn’t the case.
On Oct. 27, their newest album, Family Circle, will appear in record stores across the country. Family Circle was recorded this summer amongst the band's hectic tour schedule. Billy Smith, Shawn Camp and California Joe New appear on the CD to help Del and the boys revive classics such as “She Can’t Burn Me Now,” “I Remember You,” “Sweet Appalachia” and “Revenuer’s Blue’s.”
This album proves even when “you’re over the hill” you can still make great music.
