With over a year’s hard work under his belt, Darius Rucker has finally relinquished his hold on the Country music rookie status and moved on up. After showing up to literally almost every award show in the Country industry, he has finally made a name for himself, truly earning his opening spot on Brad Paisley’s tour.
Rucker recently made waves when he topped charts with his first Country single, “Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It.” However, music critics are beginning to take notice as his second single, “It Won’t Be Like This For Long,” also rests in the No. 1 slot.
Rucker says Country music wasn’t always the music of choice in his household while growing up; liking something other than R&B was almost unheard of in the Rucker household. Hut he admits that his aunt was a huge Willie Nelson Fan, and between his aunt, mother and grandmother, they have formed his biggest support group, urging him to go out and work for what he wanted.
"My mom and my grandmother were real, real hard workers. They were people that worked hard every day of their lives, and I think that's where I got it from," Rucker told CMT.com.
Of his aunt, he said, "She was such a big supporter. She was always telling me to go out and catch my dream and do what I want. It was great.”
This summer, Rucker will take to the highway with Rascal Flatts on their upcoming summer tour.
