4/21/2008 Kasey Bell   Country Music outlaw Charlie Daniels has received numerous awards throughout his career, but this one is a little bit different. Charlie and his wife, Hazel, will be presented with the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award at Cumberland University’s Commencement Ceremony this spring.  The award was established in 1925 to honor those deserving members of the community who have provided great service and dedication for helping others. “Charlie and Hazel Daniels have always championed service above self and have led truly inspiring lives,” said Cumberland University President Dr. Harvill C. Eaton.  “We are proud to present them with this prestigious award.” Charlie, a Wilson County, Tennessee resident, said that while he has received many awards, this one is special. “It is a very special thing to be honored by your friends and neighbors,” he said. Cumberland University’s 166th Commencement Ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 3, on Memorial Lawn.
