Country Music Month Will Be Celebrated All October

With the CMA awards so close at hand, this October will be a month of events, activities and promotions, all leading up to "Country Music's Biggest Night" Nov. 9.

Events include the CMA Songwriter Series in New York and Nashville; the "Keep the Music Playing" event, celebrating music education within public schools; the launch of CountryMusicMonth.com; plus several prizes and giveaways throughout.

Even Nashville's Mayor Karl Dean is getting in on the action. He just issued a proclamation demonstrating just how great a role the country music industry plays in Nashville's economy and lifestyle.

"It is important to recognize the contributions and celebrate the numerous contributions that CMA, the country music industry and artists have made to our community and to the lives of millions of people around the world," said Dean.

Country Music Month, the month leading up to the CMAs, was first recognized in October of 1964. It serves to recognize country music's history, while also looking forward to the future.

"With the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the CMA Awards, we felt it was an opportune time to bring back the tradition of Country Music Month as a platform for our many constituents to raise awareness and celebrate the strength, vitality and appeal of America's music," said CMA Chief Executive Officer Steve Moore.
