Country Music lost one of its sons this week when Dan Seals passed away Wednesday night at age 61 due to complications from cancer.

Seals was known for his work in the pop group, England Dan and John Ford Coley, but was better acknowledged as a Country musician. Until his diagnosis with lymphoma two years ago, Seals was working with his older brother, Jimmy, ultimately recording eight songs to be posthumously released.

Seals and John Ford Coley enjoyed modest success in 1976 with the release of two pop songs, “I’d Really Like to See You Tonight” and “Nights Are Forever,” but Seal began recording solo Country hits in the 80’ and 90’s. His hits include, “You Still Move Me,” “Bop,” and “Late on Arrival.”
Growing up in West Texas, Seals’ roots trace to Country, often times performing alongside his father. Commonly confused as a pop singer, Seals originally started out playing Country before moving to pop and eventually back to Country.

Seals passed away in Nashville at his daughter’s home and is survived by his wife and four children.

“He was very positive,” Tony Gottlieb, his manager of 30 years, said, “He participated in several clinical trials to assist with research on this type of lymphoma.”
