Country Legend Danny Davis Dies

6/13/2008 Katie Ball Country Music’s George Nowlan, known to fans as Danny Davis, leader of the Nashville Brass, died Thursday in Nashville. Davis recently turned 83. Davis worked as a producer, songwriter and instrumentalist for over fifty years. His first big success came when he produced six #1 singles as a record producer in New York. He produced two #1 records for Country Music greats Don Gibson and Dottie West, along with Waylon Jennings. Danny Davis & The Nashville Brass got their first #1 single with “I Saw The Light” and won a Grammy in 1969 for a recording of “Kawliga.” They were named the CMA Best Instrumental Group of the Year for six years in a row. Over the years, the band played shows in Las Vegas, appeared on countless television programs and pioneered a new sound. Combining Country Music with symphony orchestras gave fans a new look at an old sound. The band recorded 30 albums with RCA and other independent labels. Davis is survived by his wife, four children, and three grandchildren. Currently funeral arrangements are unknown.
