The 2008 Country Music Association Awards will air live on ABC after a highly successful appearance on the same network a year ago.

"The 42nd Annual CMA Awards" will take place Wednesday, Nov. 12, at the Sommet Center in Nashville and will air in prime time. Last year’s CMA Awards was the third highest-rated awards show during the 2007-2008 season, trailing only the Grammy Awards and Academy Awards.

CMA was the first trade organization created to promote an individual genre of music and is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The nominees and winners for the awards are determined by the 6,000 members of CMA.

The group presents trophies in 12 categories: Entertainer of the Year, Single of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Female Vocalist of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, Vocal Group of the Year, Vocal Duo of the Year, Musical Event of the Year, Musician of the Year, Music Video of the Year and New Artist of the Year (formerly known as the Horizon Award).
