Charlie Louvin Fights Pancreatic Cancer

Legendary Country Music performer Charlie Louvin is battling pancreatic cancer and will undergo a six-hour surgery at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville on July 22.

According to his website, Louvin has been diagnosed with stage 2 pancreatic cancer. He is 83 years old.
 
A statement on his website puts the urgency of the disease in perspective, "Suddenly, the success of his soon-to-be-released, new CD is not nearly as important as Charlie’s victory over one of the most virulent forms of cancer. He has been through a lot in his 83 years, but this hurdle is one he was not counting on."

Louvin, well known as half of the brother duo, the Louvin Brothers, who gained popularity in the 1950s with close harmonies and gospel-inspired music. The duo broke up in 1963, in which Louvin embarked on a solo career.

According to his website, Louvin hopes to be back on stage in late August.
