Carrie Underwood's 'Soul Surfer' Is Box Office Hit

Country queen Carrie Underwood's first film raked in more than $11 million over the weekend, proving she's also queen of the box office.

 

The film earned $5,014 per theater, which the Wall Street Journal says is the best of any wide release.

 

The film tells the inspirational story of Bethany Hamilton. Hamilton is a surfer who lost an arm due to a shark attack several years ago. Underwood plays Hamilton’s youth minister. Hamilton is played in the movie by Anna Sophia Robb, who appeared at the ACM Awards this month.

 

Soul Surfer received an A+ rating from CinemaScore. This polling website asks viewers to assign a letter grade to new movies, which intends to project the projects’ earnings.
