2/1/2008 Stephen L. Betts   Carrie Underwood has achieved a historic first with her five-week No. 1 smash, “Before He Cheats,” as it becomes the first country song to earn RIAA certification as a Double-Platinum Digital Single (recognizing two million purchased downloads). At the same time, Carrie’s multi-award-winning country debut, “Jesus, Take the Wheel,” also garners a Platinum Digital Single certification. “Before He Cheats” has earned multiple nominations for the upcoming 50th Annual Grammy Awards, including Best Country Song and Song of the Year (for writers Josh Kear and Chris Tompkins). Carrie, who won Grammys last year for Best New Artist and Best Female Country Vocal Performance, is nominated in the latter category for “Before He Cheats,” as well as Best Country Collaboration with Vocals for “Oh Love” with Brad Paisley, from Brad’s Grammy-nominated album, 5th Gear. In addition to her nominations, Carrie has been announced as a performer on the Grammy Awards, airing live Sunday, Feb. 10 at 8 p.m. (ET) on CBS.
