During a recent celebration for Blake Shelton's No. 1 hit, “She Wouldn’t Be Gone,” the singer revaled why living life on top is so good.
"One of the good things that goes along with this type of momentum is things like offers to go out with George Strait," he told partygoers, according to AOL's The Boot. "That's probably the biggest deal of them all for me at this point..."
The 6’5” Shelton met his idol shortly after the Sept. 11 attacks, when the two were among several artists closing a CMA Awards show with a rendition of “America the Beautiful.” Shelton and Strait stood next to each other and the first thing Strait told him was, "Damn, I thought you were standing on a step."
Shelton also remembers a recent award ceremony in which Strait struck up a conversation with Miranda Lambert, Shelton’s girlfriend, but hardly acknowledged his biggest fan from Oklahoma.
He's the one guy out there that I want to be like," Shelton said. "...I'm from Oklahoma. George Strait could run for President and get our votes!"
Shelton will get his chance to make a lasting impression on his iconic hero when the two hit the road together on Strait’s tour, beginning May 15.
