Blake Shelton Basks in CMA Win

Blake-Shelton-CMA-Win-2010

Blake Shelton was recently crowned the CMA Male Vocalist on the Year, but more than celebrating the win itself, the Country Music veteran is celebrating being recognized as the artist he’s always set out to be.

His goal to be considered a figure in Country Music who pushes himself as a vocalist was clear from the beginning with hits like “Home,” “Goodbye Time,” “Don’t Make Me,” “She Wouldn’t Be Gone” and his latest, “Who Are You When I’m Not Looking.”

“I want to be a guy that sings and writes songs that are like nobody else's out there, and I want to stand out on the radio,” Shelton told The Boot. “I don't want to try to figure out how to fit in anymore. I want to try to figure out how to break the mold.”

Within the past year, Shelton has found the success he’s been working towards for nearly a decade. He’s topped the Country charts with “Hillbilly Bone” and “All About Tonight,” released two six-song EPs as well as his first greatest hits collection, Loaded: The Best of Blake Shelton, became a member of the Grand Ole Opry and earned his first two CMA Awards – Musical Event of the Year for “Hillbilly Bone” and the big one, Male Vocalist of the Year.

“I've been sitting in that audience out there for 11 years – I've counted them – watching three different groups of popular artists come and go in that amount of time, and I was never one of them,” said Shelton.

Shelton’s time as a popular artist has certainly arrived. He calls his wins at the 44th Annual CMA Awards "a revelation."

I love what I do…. I hope I'm standing up here 20 years from now just like George Strait and talking about that same freaking piece of glass right there and what it means to me then,” said Shelton.

Shelton’s next concert date is in Wisconsin Dells, Wis., on Saturday, Nov. 20. For a complete list of dates, fans can visit http://www.blakeshelton.com/shows.
