Fans at the 2009 Southern 500 in Darlington, S.C., will get an unusual surprise when Country star Billy Currington and Mercury Nashville Records put on a concert during the pre-race. Along with the concert, Currington is scheduled to perform the National Anthem on Fox.
"We are very excited to have Billy Currington at Darlington for the Southern 500," said Darlington Raceway President, Chris Browning. "His pre-race concert will certainly add to the pageantry of the Southern 500, and I know it is something our fans will all enjoy."
For 60 years, fans have gathered at the Darlington Raceway, also known to many as the "too tough to tame" racetrack, to froth over the nations No. 1 sport. The race is kicked off with the NASCAR Nationwide Series Diamond Hill Plywood 200. Tickets for both races are on sale now and can be purchased at www.darlingtonraceway.com/tickets or by calling 866-459-Race.
"I remember watching the Southern 500 growing up as a kid. Being able to be a part of that this year in 2009 is something I will remember for the rest of my life," said Currington.
