4/25/2008 Lisa Ann Schleipfer Country Music artist Rodney Atkins celebrated his fourth No. 1 this week, "Cleaning This Gun (Come On In Boy)," at a party in Nashville with friends, family, and music executives. ASCAP and BMI held celebrations for the two co-songwriter’s, Marla Cannon-Goodman and Casey Beathard. The songwriters developed the song, which is a story about a father giving a stern warning to his daughter’s date, from the their foray into parenthood. "I was writing with Casey, and he had just had a little girl," Goodman explained to CMT.com. "My husband and I had been through some struggles trying to have a family, and I was finally pregnant. Casey came in with this idea and it just seemed like the right thing to do. I mean, I was a daughter, and I know how hard it was trying to bring somebody home." Atkins, Goodman, and Beathard had nothing but compliments for one another, "We were just blessed Rodney heard it," Goodman said of the song. "What I loved about it was, yeah, it's kind of a redneck-humored, funny song, but they wrote it intelligently," Atkins said. This is the fourth hit off of Atkins’ 2006 release, If You're Going Through Hell.  The Country Music artist has several CMA nominations this year including Top Male Vocalist, Album of the Year, Song of the Year (“Watching You”) and Video of the Year (“Watching You”).  Catch him performing at the CMA’s live, Sunday, May 18 on CBS.
