ASCAP Honors Best Country Songwriters

reba-mcentireThe American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers held its 46th Annual Country Music Awards at the Ryman Auditorium Monday night. As usual, they did not disappoint.Dave Berg took home the night's Songwriter of the Year Award. Berg has co-written hits for Blake Shelton, Emerson Drive and Bucky Covington, among others. Alan Jackson was named the ASCAP Songwriter/Artist of the Year, while Billy Currington's hit, "Good Directions," took home the prize for Country Song of the Year.The night's biggest highlight came when Reba McEntire was presented with the Golden Note Award, which is presented to those who have achieved "extraordinary career milestones." She was also honored with musical tributes from Brooks & Dunn, Kelly Clarkson and LeAnn Rimes."I'm absolutely flattered to be here," McEntire said. "The song is the thing for me. If I don't have a great song, I don't record."
