Arizona State Pays Tribute to Roy Orbison

1/7/2008 Stephen L. Betts A series of events at Arizona State University from Jan. 24-26 will honor the legendary Roy Orbison. Roy’s widow, Barbara Orbison, will attend the Roy Orbison Tribute Concert on Jan. 25 to accept Roy's Lifetime Achievement Award. ASU will also award Barbara the Center's Legacy Award for her work in maintaining and promoting her late husband's music. The concert will feature the Truly Lover Trio who perform Roy's songs, and the Herberger String Quartet performing Kim Scharnberg's “Suite on Tunes by Roy Orbison.” On Jan. 24, ASU will show the 1980 film Roadie, which features Roy Orbison playing himself, alongside Art Carney and Meat Loaf. Roy’s first Top 10 country hit, “That Loving You Feeling Again,” a duet with Emmylou Harris, is taken from that film. Roy Orbison died of a heart attack on Dec. 6, 1988. He was 52.
