On September 17 at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium, the Americana Music Association will bestow a Lifetime Achievement award to Ray Benson & Asleep at the Wheel.  The eighth annual Americana Honors & Awards show is sponsored by the Gibson Foundation.

"I can't think of a more deserving outfit for this award," says AMA Lifetime Achievement award-winner Willie Nelson, "Our Ray Benson will leave a mark. He's been a lot of places, done a lot of things and recorded it all."  Asleep at the Wheel has worked and toured with artists over the past 40 years such as Bob Dylan, Hot Tuna, Emmylou Harris, Van Morrison, George Strait, Rod Steward, Alice Cooper, and many more.

The band got their start out of Austin, Texas in 1969, since then they have won 9 Grammys, recorded over 25 studio albums.
