9/27/2007 Stephen L. Betts CMA Horizon Award nominee Jason Aldean tells the Huntsville Times he had two career paths to choose from by the time he had turned 18. He could accept a scholarship to play college baseball or he could become a musician. “Both of them are so hard to get into,” he reasons, but of performing on stage he says, “Once you do it once, you're hooked." Jason, now 30, recalls moving to Nashville at age 21. For the next eight years, he wrote songs and played gigs, although not always playing to a packed house. He can remember playing to crowds of just 15 people. “Those are the nights that challenge you a little bit,” he says. With opening spots on Rascal Flatts recent tour, the crowds coming to see Jason are much bigger these days. “Bars can't hold the people that are coming to the shows,” he says. Over the next several days, Jason will be on tour in Georgia, Alabama, Oklahoma and Tennessee. He’ll hook up again with Rascal Flatts in Chicago on Oct. 12, opening a series of shows on the Still Feels Good tour.
