Alan-Jackson-2009-BamaJam

While last Thursday’s rains changed the BamaJam Music and Arts Festival grounds into a muddy mess, festival goers were out in full force for the three-day festival. Event organizer Ronnie Gilley estimates 120,000 people attended Saturday’s concerts, alone. Taylor Swift closed out Thursday’s night performance, and Alan Jackson, Brooks & Dunn and Kid Rock drew in crowds during Friday and Saturday’s performances.

Among the top name Country performers for Friday were Aaron Tippin, who assembled a bicycle on stage and presented the bike to a Marine for Toys for Tots; Charlie Daniels, who paid tribute to the troops by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance after playing some hits; Alan Jackson closed up the night, rolling from hit to hit with little onstage talking.

Saturday’s performers included Heidi Newfield, who kicked things off with “What Am I Waiting For” and a mix of her solo hits and songs from Trick Pony; Pat Green kept it casual with bare feet, jeans and a T-shirt, and sung singles “Carry On” and “What I’m For”; Jason Aldean sung hits “Amarillo Sky,” “Why,” and “Big Green Tractor” during the 90-degree temperature; Gary Allan was the first moonlighter and played hits “Nothing on but the Radio,” “Learning How to Bend” and “I Ever Had”; Brooks & Dunn played a slew of hits, including “Brand New Man,” “My Maria” and “Boot Scootin’ Boogie”; Kid Rock closed BamaJam with “Rock-n-Roll Jesus.”

The third annual BamaJam will take place June 3-5, 2010, and Kenny Chesney has already signed on as one of the headliners.
