3/18/2008 Meaghan Mitchell Alan Jackson's newest single "Small Town Southern Man" went to No. 1 yesterday on the R&R and Country Aircheck charts. The song is Jackon's 32nd No. 1 hit single and the first single of his GOOD TIME album which debuted this week, also at No. 1 on the pop and country charts. As GOOD TIME hits No.1, fans notice the coincidence of numbers involved in this project. GOOD TIME offers 17 songs (all written by Jackson) worth 71 minutes of play time and it went No. 1 on March 17. Nevertheless, Jackson's songwriting is what put his latest single higher than 17 on the charts. "Small Town Southern Man" was released late last year, but Jackson says it is not a song based on his family. "I didn't sit down to write a song about my family and my daddy and granddaddy, but I did pull from that stuff. But wherever you go, there are rural people -- around outskirts of major cities and everywhere -- that are working for a living and raising families. They all have the same qualities and same goals as a small town southern man."
