Dobro guru Jerry Douglas' new album, Glide, was released this week, marking his 12th studio record. The Music Row favorite includes special guests Travis Tritt, Earl Scruggs and Rodney Crowell on the album. Douglas, credited with bringing the dobro instrument to popular music, is comfortable with collaboration; he is a long-time member of Alison Kraus & Union Station and has been featured on songs with Trisha Yearwood, Alan Jackson and Garth Brooks. Douglas' influence on Country Music has earned him a unique mark of distinction: he has been chosen as the Artist-In-Residence for the Country Music Hall of Fame, a yearly honor bestowed on a single musician or artist. Douglas joins the ranks of Kris Kristofferson, Guy Clark and Tom T. Hall and is performing in a series of concerts throughout August and September. The Nashville-loved musician told The Daily Paper, "It was definitely unexpected and it's something that means as much to me as anything that's ever happened in my career. It's going to give me a chance to do so some different things, bring in some of my friends, and really take advantage of a unique opportunity. I don't want to spoil any of the surprises, so I'll just tell people that they should come out to the concerts because they're going to see and hear some things that will be quite different and delightful musically." Straight from the dobro-player's mouth. Douglas' Artist-in-Residence concert series continues at the Museum's Ford Theater on Aug. 27, Sept. 16 and Sept. 30. Tickets can be purchased for $30 at www.countrymusichalloffame.com.
