Even when the Eli Young Band didn't have a major record label, they didn't let that stop them, going on to sell 40,000 albums independently and get airtime for their video, "When It Rains," on CMT, GAC and Billboard. Finally, after eight years trying to make it in the industry, they will release their first album, Jet Black and Jealous, on Sept. 16 on Universal South Records. The band consists of four men who each contribute their own part to the the sound of the band: lead vocalist Mike Eli, guitarist James Young, bass player Jon Jones and drummer Chris Thompson. "We can stand up with our heads held high because we have a history and we've gone out there for eight years and worked really hard," said Eli. "Everything that we've done so far, we've built ourselves. I think there's something to be said for that, being able to have our story and being able to have a history as a band."
